Alexei Popyrin

 In ATP, ATP Player

Alexei Popyrin is one of the more interesting names on the Australian tennis circuit, and at just 19 he looks set to have a very bright future indeed. for one so young, he’s managed to break into the Top 125 of the ATP rankings, doing so in January 2019.

While by no means the finished article yet, his rise to prominence has been incredible impressive. The talented and skillful Popyrin looks set to help utilize his massive following back home to his advantage, already winning two of his three career finals at Singles level. he defeated James Ward in the Jinan Challenger for his first trophy, but he also made a huge impression in 2019 when he won his first ever Grand Slam match.

He was a wildcard at the Brisbane International and the Sydney International, and went out in the first round at both. He also got the wild card call for the Australian Open itself, and managed to impress massively with a win over the talented Mischa Zverev, doing so in straight sets.

He also defeated Dominic Thiem before going out to Lucas Pouille. His maturity and rapid progression, though, suggest bigger things to come.
