Eugenie Bouchard

 In WTA, WTA Player

For fans of Canadian tennis, there’s been a bit of a talent vacuum in the years gone by. Thankfully, it looks like that finally might be about to change with the introduction of the lieks of Eugenie Bouchard. Otherwise just known as Genie, she’s become one of the most respected young tennis players on the WTA circuit. Having won the WTA Newcomer of the Year and Most Improved Player awards in 2013 and 2014, Bouchard has already set a very impressive precedent in terms of performance in her career.

Indeed, she made history by becoming the first Canadian-born player to represent Canada and reach a Final of a Grand Slam. She reached the Finals and came runner-up to Petra Kvitova. Already a runner-up at a major tournament like Wimbledon, she’s also reached the semi-finals of events such as the Australian Open in 2014, the French Open in the same year, and also won the Wimbledon Girls title in 2012.

Having made a huge impact on the sport already, she’s become a real name on the circuit. Her right-handed style is extremely impressive, with a fantastic level of accuracy and a real artistry to the way that she connects. Having worked until the likes of Nick Saviano, Antonio van Grichen and Thomas Hogstedt, she’s received an incredible level of coaching in her career so far. It shows, with a deeply refined and consistent way of playing the game really standing out in front of the crowd.

A deeply aggressive player, her main weakness probably comes when she has to be the more defensive player. She’s very powerful, though, typically hitting on the rose to try and rush her opponent and to try and help dictate the pace of the match to suit her high-octane style. It’s a high-risk, high-reward playstyle that makes her incredible exciting to watch for most fans. For that reason, she’s become one of the most popular names in the sport. Add in the fact that she has an angelic personality coupled with the heart and determination to win of a lion, and it’s easy to see why for so many people that Eugenie Bouchard is seen as one of the ones most likely to rise up and take the place of the likes of Serena Williams. At just 23, it’s safe to say that she has an absolutely exceptional career ahead of her at WTA level.
