Already seen as a prodigy in China, 17-year-old Wang Xiyu might just be among the most impressive young players on the WTA circuit. Already breaking into the WTA Singles Top 250, coming as high as 23nd in 2018, she’s also seen rapid growth in her performances for one so young.
Her first debut at WTA main draw level was in the 2017 Tianjin en, when she was given a wildcard into the single main draw. There, she impressed by defeating Danka Kovinic in the First Round. 2018 has already been a major year for the young star, winning the Junior edition of Wimbledon at Doubles level, and also reaching the Semi Finals of the Australian Open, building on her last four defeat in 2017’ French Open.
Her Singles level record is very impressive, too, reaching the Quarter Finals of the French and Australian Open, the Semi Finals of Wimbledon and winning the 2018 US Open at Junior level, cementing a wonderful early-years record.
She’s also been a losing Finalist in the US Open at Junior level, which she achieved in 2017. She’s been runner-up at tournaments in both Castellon, Spain and Hua Hin, Thailand, at Doubles level, also.
